Celebrating Memorial Day

Races are a great way to remember loved ones.

  • Maybe teams are created to honor someone special.

  • Maybe the race exists in memory of a beloved community member.

  • Maybe running was something participants did with a lost friend or family member — and being at a race brings memories back.

Whatever the reason, there is something about moving with our community that feels therapeutic.

This weekend is Memorial Day — a time when our country pauses to honor the men and women who gave everything in service of our country.

And many of us silently remember others, too — family members and friends we wish were still with us.

Since I haven’t yet figured out a way to bring people back from the dead, coming together at feel good events seems like the the next best thing.

So if you’re a race director who is reading this — thank you for honoring the legacies of those we’ve lost. It matters more than we realize.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
