Criticism inspired by Kendrick

“Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages you’ve had.”
Nick Carraway, The Great Gatsby

That line has stuck with me — and it’s one I try to live by.

At Run The Day, we even wrote it into our core values: we believe that race directors — no matter the size of their event — are working to build up their communities by creating a unifying experience.

So we never criticize a race director (regardless of whether they’re a Run The Day customer) or a runner (no matter how fast or slow).

I believe our competitors are also working to uplift their communities. And I like to think that we’re all racing toward the same goal: a stronger, more connected future.

But while lying in the sunshine this Memorial Day Weekend, it hit me — if we never show how we’re different, people may never understand where we fit. And without contrast, there’s no clarity.

Kendrick Lamar just won a Grammy by dissing Drake. In today’s world, critique cuts through. Comparison clarifies.

So instead of criticizing (like Kendrick), I wanted to simply compare Run The Day to other registration platforms.

Not to tear anyone down — but to help you see what we’re building, and where it might better serve you, your community and your race.
