Profound to silly
When I started with Run The Day I thought that everything I shared needed to be profound.
I was looking for insights everywhere and even went running with 30 different run groups in one month to search for them.
Since then, I have learned that not everything needs to be profound. Sometimes people just don’t know you exist, and making them aware of you helps.
As an example, I recently posted an Instagram video of falling asleep on my keyboard while wearing a polar bear hat. As silly as this felt, immediately after posting it, our registrations spiked for the Philly Christmas Run.
When people just want to be entertained, something silly that makes them laugh can work better than a profound insight. At the end of the day, the trial and error iteration process seems to work best.
Just look at viruses. They have no brains, no limbs, no mouths, and yet somehow they iterate to the point that they shut down the world in 2020.
That’s not to say we should never be thoughtful. Being thoughtful, strategic and intentional is still good.
It’s just that we don’t need to overthink too much, especially when it comes to race promotion.
To grow a race, often silly, entertaining content is more impactful than a profound post.
