The weirdo in the corner

“Who’s that weirdo in the corner?”

At a 5K last weekend, I’d stepped into the school cafeteria where race check-in was being held. Bundled in a puffy winter jacket with hands in my pockets, I had only meant to quickly warm up before heading back out into the winter morning.

But someone spotted me!

I pulled my hands out of my pockets and exclaimed, “It’s just me! I’m with the race company and mean no harm.”

Everybody laughed.

“Oh you’re the guy who sends me emails Ian from Run The Day, Ian from Run The Day. That’s all I see in my inbox.”

Yep, that’s me — the guy who sends you emails.

At least they’re short.

Eventbrite vs. Run The Day

Run The Day vs. Eventbrite

Eventbrite generates over $300 million in annual revenue. It’s a ticketing platform that works great for concerts. But it lacks features (like simple check-in) that make race-day logistics smooth.

Eventbrite is a recognizable brand. Just not one that’s built for 5K races.
