What do we do?

What do we do?

It’s a simple question that I get asked a lot.

What does Run The Day do?

Different people describe Run The Day in different ways:

  • “They time races”

  • “Their platform streamlines registration”

  • “They help you easily start a 5K”

  • “Their newsletter provides inspiration”

All of this is true. But at our core, Run The Day’s work is meant to keep communities united by bringing people together to move.

We don’t do everything required to bring people together to move. Instead we support leaders who bring people together to move with our modern technology and passionate people.

Despite what it might seem like, bringing people together to move does not just happen. Organizing a race (and all active community events) requires leadership, which is often hard work.

Run The Day can’t solve every problem involved with organizing a race, but we do our best to lighten the burden for community leaders. By doing this, we work to create a future that is full of memorable community races.

Personally, I believe it is important for the future to have many vibrant community races for 2 main reasons:

  1. Races unite communities by bringing people together: Humans are a social species that need community, which is getting harder to find. Modern technology provides many conveniences (which are awesome!), but also makes it easier to become lonely and isolated. Races offer an opportunity to come together and remember that we are all members of the same human species.

  2. Races motivate people to get moving: Exercise is widely considered as the #1 way to live a longer, healthier life. Regular exercise helps to fend off the 4 main ways that humans die (cancer, diabetes, heart disease and Alzheimer’s). Not only does exercise help us to live longer and healthier lives, getting active allows us to feel better today. Yet many people still don’t exercise regularly. More events that motivate people to get moving would be a good thing.

By working to build a future that is full of community races, we believe we do our small part in positively impacting the future, which is one of our 7 core values (a full list is below).

People will continue describing Run The Day in different ways. That is OK. As long as the description involves something that contributes to keeping communities united by bringing people together to move, we are doing our job.
