Why community races are important

The importance of community races

It may seem like our lives are currently spent entirely on screens, people’s loneliness levels are high and our communities are divided, but this is only the beginning. The internet has existed for half of a generation, the iPhone is less than 20 years old and remote work is still in its infancy following the COVID pandemic. This is still day 1.

With the changes and comforts created by new technology, work will be required to ensure that future generations remain united while living active lifestyles in strong communities.

Work that keeps future generations united OR active OR living in strong communities is important and worthwhile. Work that accomplishes all 3 simultaneously should be treated like a rare treasure and preserved like an endangered species that is essential to the health of our environment.

Community races are that rare treasure. These events:

  • Bring humans together

  • Keep people active

  • Build communities stronger

That is why Run The Day is working hard to support these awesome traditions and keep future communities united, active and strong.

Customer Spotlight: The Narberth CF Run

The Narberth CF Run is an annual event that brings the Narberth community together and raises money to support those battling Cystic Fibrosis. The run has been taking place for 29 years. The Take a Breather Foundation was started by the late Matt McCloskey and began fulfilling wishes for children in 1996 when it granted its first wish by sending a child to Disney World.

This year, the run grew registrations by 97% helping it to raise over $37,000 (almost double it’s goal of $20,000) to provide a breather for those Battling Cystic Fibrosis. Stay tuned below for a list of the growth tactics employed by the Take a Breather team to increase its registrations.

Growth tactics

  • The Narberth CF Run opened registration 3 months before race day and increased prices by $5 every month. The 4 levels of time-based pricing were set up as pre-sale, early bird, registration and race day. The event ran marketing campaigns leading up to all 3 price increases to drive urgency.

  • The Narberth CF Run sent emails and SMS text messages both to their internal database as well as Run The Day’s community of runners.

  • The event kept registration open until a few minutes before the start allowing for the collection of an additional 73 registrations after the close of packet pickup on the night before the race.

  • In addition to awards for runners, the event gave awards to the team with the most dollars fundraised (view team leaderboard here) and randomly selected finishers for ‘door prizes.’

  • The Take A Breather team spread the word in the Narberth community with guerilla marketing tactics like posting signs, hanging banners and telling their friends and family.

  • The race offered a new course and had a beer garden after the finish line.
