Challenges of a Community Race

Challenges of a Community Race

Organizing a community race feels meaningful, but comes with challenges.

Providing participants a memorable experience is not easy. It requires hard work that begins with picking a date and securing a venue then continues with getting the word out, courting sponsors, coordinating volunteers and doesn’t end until after race day when accounting reports are finalized, photos are posted and thank you notes are sent.

A few of the challenges that we hear a lot are:

  • Finding the time to organize a race while working another full time job

  • Promoting the event to nearby runners

  • Managing spreadsheets with hundreds of columns of data

  • Putting out fires when things go sideways

  • Courting sponsors

  • Attracting and coordinating volunteers

  • Keeping the process simple

Given the importance of community races, we don’t want the challenges involved with organizing a race to prevent these awesome community traditions from taking place in future generations. That’s why we’ve revamped Run The Day’s technology and continue innovating to transform the experience of organizing a race.

Hearing that Run The Day’s technology is already helping races to get the job done easier makes my day. One example is a recent conversation with Bev - you can watch at the bottom of this email.

We are only getting started and look forward to reducing these challenges for you when organizing community races in the future.

In the interim, thank you for fighting through the obstacles to give your community a memorable event. The future will be better as a result.

Tech Update: Get discovered by nearby runners

  • Hundreds of thousands of runners visit Run The Day every year to find their next race.

  • Previously, runners selected filters and entered information to discover nearby races.

  • Now, a runners simply needs to ‘allow location’ to view all nearby races.

  • Nothing is needed from you as a race director. If your race is listed on Run The Day, it will automatically be displayed to runners nearby.
